Wojciech Kopczynski (born 1955) – Polish visual artist, graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. For years associated with the studio of Prof. Jan Pamuła at the Faculty of Painting. He is a PhD professor at the Academy of Fine Arts.
Wojciech Kopczyński’s work is dominated by drawing and painting. His works often take almost the form of objects, in which the artist does not limit himself to using only purely painting means. To create his works, he uses various types of combined materials, which together create a unique complex texture, often situated between the traditionally defined painting and bas-relief.
Wojciech Kopczynski’s works are a language of painterly representations reduced to single signs and symbols, in which the artist expresses his creative individuality. The brown, dark colors of Wojciech Kopczynski’s works, which are characteristic of him, emphasize the pessimistic, almost apocalyptic picture of reality that dominates his entire oeuvre, in which man is doomed to a tragic fate.
Wojciech Kopczynski is the recipient of many awards and honors. He was awarded the Silver Cross of Merit of the President of the Republic of Poland (2016). He has participated in many group exhibitions in Poland and abroad, and his works have been shown at individual exhibitions in Italy, Germany, France and the United States, among others. Wojciech Kopczynski’s works are in the collections of the National Museum in Kielce, the National Museum in Barcelona, the Museum “Espace de Goya” in Bordeaux, the Museum of Polish Art in Chicago, as well as in private collections in the USA, Switzerland and the UK, among others.
